The West Bengal State Education Department has launched an initiative to identify and nurture science talent among Class IX students in the state through the Jayaditya National Science Talent Search (JNSTS). The first layer of the VSAT exam will take place on 7th May 2023 and will be based on the Class VIII syllabus for science and maths. Students from government, government-sponsored, non-government-aided, and DA-getting schools nominated by their HMs, AI, and ICs are eligible to apply. The top 3 candidates from each unit will receive a book grant of Rs. 1,000, and the top 10% of students from each team will qualify for the second layer of the exam.

The top 10 candidates from each district will receive a book grant of Rs. 2,000, and the top 20% of students from each district will qualify for the third layer of the exam.
